Estimated to be as many as 15,000 languages a millennium ago, today we are left with 6,000 or so languages spoken around the world, and this number is predicted to fall to as low as a few hundred within a century. Put simply, children around the world have stopped learning half of the world’s languages. This is most evident amongst the languages spoken by the indigenous populations of Australia. From a rich linguistic tapestry of over 250 languages at the time of European settlement, the number has shrunk to a patchwork of fifteen languages held together by threads of pidgin, and there seems to be little in the way of practical solutions to save more from dying.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.18901/00000285","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"麗澤大学経済学会"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0919-6714","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2012-09-27"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"087-093_William Hay.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"50.8 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"087-093_William Hay","url":"https://reitaku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/320/files/087-093_William Hay.pdf"},"version_id":"89b2dc16-0c0a-4d8c-9b24-9148f1eb6b45"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"bilingualism","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"economic imperialism","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"language diversity","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"indigenous societies","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Language Diversity: A Dying Concept","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Language Diversity: A Dying Concept"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"14","path":["64"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2012-09-27"},"publish_date":"2012-09-27","publish_status":"0","recid":"320","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Language Diversity: A Dying Concept"],"weko_creator_id":"14","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-06-20T16:17:25.199126+00:00"}
